3rd International IFOAM Organic Coffee Conference, Kampala, Uganda, 6-8 October 2004
The conference featured:

  • The Current State of Organic Coffee production bottlenecks and the research agenda to improve
  • Organic Coffee production.
  • The Current State of organic coffee markets, bottlenecks and strategies for the future.
  • Present certified Organic coffees in order to stimulate market uptake.
  • Smallholder certification schemes.
  • Developments in organic coffee in East Africa.

Uganda has developed into the leading country for Organic coffee production in Africa with about 21,000 certified smallholders.

Regionally, there are approximately 26,000 small holders certified including neigbouring countries. The location of Uganda is close to other major coffee producing countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda and Tanzania, which comprise the center of origin for coffee, making it the ideal location for hosting the 3rd IFOAM Organic Coffee Conference.
